（２回目の感謝、バージョン２です。） (山)2006.2.16 *１９７３年発表。２作目の「セイリン・シューズ」の発表後のツアーでベースのロイ・甲高い声・エストラーダさんがキャプテン・牛・ビーフハートのバンドに飛んで行ってしまい困ったリーダーのローウェルさん。その時にはまっていたニューオリンズ・ファンクを自分たち流に具現化しようと、元デラニー＆ボニーにいたベース、ケニー・グラッドニーさんとパーカッションのサム・低い声・クレイトンさんに加入して貰いました。さらに結成時にベースのオーディションを受けて落選しやさぐれていたローウェルの後輩で弟の友達ちゅういかにも何でも言うことを聞きそうな立場の(笑)ポール・バレルさんをサカンド・ギターに迎え、ドラムのリッチー・ヘイワードさん、ピアノのビル・ペインさん、セカンドラインを猛特訓、いざこのアルバムを発表とゆう次第で有ります。私はこのアルバムで初めてフィートに出会ったのですが、第一印象は地味だなあ。でもこりゃ聴いたことの無い味わいだちゅうんで何回も聴くともう抜けられなくなってしまいました。今考えるとあれだけやりたいこと満載でやろうと思えばいくらでも出来るバンドがこれだけ抑えた音世界を作ったのは逆にこれからこれで俺たちは行っちゃるちゅう固い決意の表明だったのかも。スライド・ギターなど簡単にコピー出来そうな気配ですが、絶対に同じ音になりえないとゆう凄みを感じさせます。同時にきちんと自分たちの足場であるＬＡの音も出していたり、加入直後にして最高のソロを取るポールさんの「On Your Way Down 」（好きなトゥーサンの曲だけにローウェルがソロ取りたかったはずなのがポールの味を見抜いたローウェルさん凄し）も見逃せません。さらにさらに、ニューオリンズ・ファンクのニューオリンズたらしめている欧州風味まで感じさせてくれるこのアルバム、たーんと食べておかわりしてくださいませ。 |
